Turtle Derivation

a) Our founder and family have spent many hours swimming with the green turtles (Chelonia Mydas) at Lady Elliot Island.

b) Our founder set a world record rowing the marathon in 2022. The marathon race is named after the Battle of Marathon which took place in Greece in 490BC. The battle is significant in Greek history given a relatively small force of Athenian citizen-soldiers defeated the much larger Persian army invasion. According to popular legend, an Athenian soldier named Pheidippides was sent from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce the victory. He ran approximately 40kms to Athens, burst into the Assembly and said "Nenikekamen!" (we have won) then collapsed from exhaustion and died (the classic greek tragedy). Turtle coins were in circulation in Greece at the time of the Battle of Marathon (490 BC). These were the silver Aeginetan Stater, minted by the island city state of Aegina. The coins featured a smoothed-shelled sea turtle on one side.
